Hosting a garden party gives you and your guests a chance to experience an almost-dead art form: the sophisticated and elegant picnic. A garden parties goes beyond picnics by offering a wonderful selection of foods for a larger gathering, and they take place in lovely natural settings. To complement your garden party, make equally elegant party invitations for your guests.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper
  • Ink
  • Specialty paper (optional)
  • Foam tape or double-sided tape
  • Hobby knife
  • Glue
  1. Step 1

Pick a shape for the invitations that isn't square or designed in a strange shape. The Post Office charges more to ship obtusely shaped envelopes, even simple squares. If at all possible, make your invitations fit inside the envelope of a standard birthday card. If you're handing the invitations out personally, then you can make them any shape you want.

  2. Step 2

Choose a card stock that is blank when you plan on designing the card from scratch, but feel free to pick a card stock that has a border, pattern, texture or any other embellishment you like.

  3. Step 3

Choose the ink and font style you wish to use on your cards. If you're going to be doing the lettering yourself, then you might want to invest in a calligraphy pen. If not, then you can usually get away with just use your computer printer (with a thin card stock).

  4. Step 4

Create the wording for your invitation. It's important to remember to include the date, time and location on any invitation. In addition, if you need an accurate head count, be sure to include an RSVP with an envelope.

  5. Step 5

Make your cards three dimensional by securing a design to the card using a thick foam tape or even just a double-sided tape. In this way, you can have multiple elements on your card without having to rely on a traditional folded card.

Tips & Warnings
  • Order your invitations online through a store like Papyrus (see Resources above). Papyrus offers a wide selection of pre-made invitations and it will custom design the content for you. It's also relatively inexpensive and can have the job done in a fraction of a time it might take to make your own garden party invitations.
  • Don't make garden party invitations that have sharp edges or anything that could puncture the envelope or the letter carrier. Sending sharp objects through the mail in a standard envelope is illegal and can lead to injury. Stick with card stock papers or even cardboard if you need your invitations to keep a rigid shape.
