Things You'll Need:
- Brake
- Metal hole punch
- Screws
- Ladder
- Power screwdriver
-
Step 1
Draw up a rough draft for your fascia approach. Depending on the length and pitch of your roof, you may be able to cover an entire side with one piece of aluminum. Be sure to use the proper tools, like a brake, to bend the aluminum into shape without damaging it.
-
Step 2
Use a metal hole punch to prepare the aluminum before you are ready to hang it. Create holes on the top and bottom of each piece every 6 to 8 inches. Remember that the screws will be inserted into the top and overhang of the boards and not in the front face.
-
Step 3
Check to be sure that your soffit has been installed before you hang the aluminum. Soffit is the material on the underside of your roof that hangs perpendicular to the facia and provides the same water protection. If the soffit hangs out too far, you'll have to trim it down before you can hang the aluminum boards.
-
Step 4
Work with a friend to hang large pieces of aluminum fascia. Place a ladder at the far end where you're starting and a second one about 3/4 of the way down. Press the aluminum into the drip edge of your roof and wrap the bottom section around the soffit.
-
Step 5
Drill in the screws with an electric tool to be sure that the boards are firmly secured. If you are having trouble getting the screws fitted, then you may want to punch larger holes into the aluminum.
-
Step 6
Attach any gutter hangers after the entire piece of aluminum has been secured. You may want to pre-drill holes for these hangers before the fascia is put on, but be sure that the holes are appropriate for the size of the mounting screws. Note that some of the gutter hangers will need to be in places where the aluminum boards cover beams.
