How to Hang Vinyl Fascia Boards

When you hang vinyl fascia boards on your roof, you can protect your home from excessive water damage. Instructions

    • 1

Use a tape measure to measure the length of the roof where you are going to hang vinyl fascia. If possible, you want to be able to use one solid piece of vinyl for each side, since doing so creates a better seal. Do use multiple pieces if the roof changes pitch.

    • 2

Measure out the length on the vinyl fascia and cut it with a saw or special cutting tool. Some vinyl fascia will be damaged by normal blades, so ask about the best way to cut your particular product at the time of purchase. Cut a 45-degree angle into one end if you will be joining two pieces at different heights.

    • 3

Examine both sides of the vinyl fascia boards before you hang them. Mark the imperfect side with a small cut so that you'll remember to hang it facing inwards against the house.

    • 4

Set up two ladders so that you and a friend can each support one side of the vinyl boards. One person will start screwing on the far end and the second should move her ladder several feet towards the center of the board to support more weight.

    • 5

Use a screwdriver gun to secure two screws at the end of the board. Put one screw at the top of the board and the second at the bottom. Work your way down the length of the board and place two screws like this every 2 feet.

Tips & Warnings

  • It's always better to cut your fascia a little bit longer than shorter. Long ends can be trimmed down, but short pieces will leave wood exposed.

  • When you are ready to screw in the vinyl fascia, be sure that both you and your helper are pushing the board against the house so that it can be tightly and evenly fitted.

  • Depending on the thickness of your vinyl fascia, you may need to get another tool to help create clear screw holes. Plan to make these holes before you hold the boards against the house.
