Transferring a domain name is easy once you have all the steps in one place.

This article demystifies the process of transferring domains from MyDomain.com to eNom.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A domain registered at MyDomain.com
  • Your login and password for your MyDomain account
  • Login and password information for your account at eNom, eNomCentral, or BulkRegister
  1. Step 1

Verify that the domain name is eligible for transfer -- that is, that the name has been registered for at least 60 days, is not expired, and is not in Registrar Lock status.

  2. Step 2

Log on to your account at MyDomain.com.

  3. Step 3

    Click "My Domains".

  4. Step 4

Select the check boxes next to the domains you want to transfer.

  5. Step 5

To confirm that the contact information for the domain is correct (especially Registrant and Administrative email addresses), in "Step 2", open the menu and select "Change Contact Information".

  6. Step 6

To change the Registrant contact information, click "Owner".

  7. Step 7

Type in the new contact information.

  8. Step 8

To apply the new contact information to any other contact types, select the corresponding check boxes.

  9. Step 9

    Click "Update".

  10. Step 10

Confirm that the correct contact types are being updated and click "Yes".

  11. Step 11

To obtain the authorization code, click "My Domains".

  12. Step 12

Select the check box next to the domain you want to transfer.

  13. Step 13

In "Step 2", open the menu and select "Retrieve Authorization Code".

  14. Step 14

Click "Go". The authorization code is mailed to the Registrant email address.

  15. Step 15

To unlock the domain, click "My Domains".

  16. Step 16

Select the check box next to the domain you want to transfer.

  17. Step 17

In "Step 2", open the menu and select "Unlock these domains - to allow transfers".

  18. Step 18

Now you're ready to create the transfer request at eNom.

  19. Step 19

Log on to your account at eNom, eNomCentral, or BulkRegister.

  20. Step 20

In the "DOMAINS" menu, click "transfer a domain name".

  21. Step 21

Select "Auto verification" and click "next".

  22. Step 22

Type in the domain name you want to transfer, a comma, a space, and then the authorization code. If you have more domains, hit "Enter" and type in the information for the next domain on a new line. Repeat for each domain you're transferring, one per line.

  23. Step 23

Set the Registrar Lock, Auto-Renew, Whois, and Password options as you wish.

  24. Step 24

    Click "next".

  25. Step 25

    Click "submit".

  26. Step 26

When you (or the Whois contacts listed at MyDomain) receive the email from eNom asking for approval of the transfer, do so by following the instructions in the email.

Tips & Warnings
  • There are a few unscrupulous businesses that "hijack" names -- transfer unlocked domains to themselves, effectively stealing them. Once you unlock your name, it's advisable to submit the transfer request at eNom quickly, to reduce the time window for any potential hijackers.
  • Make sure the transfer email that you approve is eNom's, not from one of these hijackers.
