If you are having writer's block or are looking for new ideas, look to a postcard that you have never used, or a used one you have found at an antique store. Here's how to write a story from a postcard.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper
  • Pen or pencil
  • Imagination
  • Time
  • Postcard
  1. Step 1

Look at your postcard. What do you think is going on in the picture?

  2. Step 2

Write down a list of images you see in your postcard.

  3. Step 3

Now write down a series of associations with these images.

  4. Step 4

Turn the postcard over. Is there writing? What does it say?

  5. Step 5

Write down what the postcard says under your previous work on a separate sheet of paper.

  6. Step 6

Now circle images such as colors, places or time that you can connect to the written message.

  7. Step 7

This is a fictional piece, so make up your own idea of why the person wrote this note, or a story as to what is really going on in the postcard.

  8. Step 8

Next, start writing. Be sure to incorporate the items, colors and concepts from the postcard into your new found story.
