Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Arrive at work well rested. It is much easier to stay patient and friendly when you have a full night of sleep under your belt. If attending a holiday party the night before your shift, also keep your alcohol intake to a minimum to avoid negative effects the next morning that may make your mood worse.
Step2
Keep a supply of pain relievers handy to take if necessary during your break. A headache or sore muscles will distract you from your customers and could put you in a stressed or bad mood.
Step3
Take a lot of deep breaths if you find yourself getting stressed. This may help keep you calm.
Step4
Welcome your customer. A friendly smile and a hello can go a long way in keeping your customer happy and in a better mood to shop.
Step5
Help your customer as much as possible. Remember that they may be just as stressed as you are with the crowds and long lines. Going the extra mile may just make their day, and leave a favorable impression with them to return another time.
Step6
Concentrate on your customer. Don't worry about long lines when you're working on the cash register, just focus on one customer at a time. You'll be able to stay focused and move the line more quickly when you're only worrying about one customer.
