If you want to rid your body of heavy metals, pesticides, free radicals and other toxins, but you aren’t eager to use internal cleansing methods that can be harsh, there is a gentle way to detox effectively in your bathtub. A series of bentonite clay baths can treat many symptoms and illnesses and boost the health of those of us who are exposed to the modern world’s additives, preservatives, environmental and industrial pollutants. Bentonite is an absorbent volcanic clay. In a bath, it can draw toxic chemicals out through the pores of the skin. Read on to find out more about how to detox with clay.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Finely powdered Bentonite clay
  • Blender or whisk
  • Old newspapers or car sponge
  • Mineral/electrolyte supplement

Step1
Fill your bathtub with very warm water--102 to 104 degrees F.
Step2
Add 1 cup of bentonite clay to the water. You can use more if you’re in good health or less if your system is stressed or sensitive. To avoid clumping, sprinkle the clay gently over the water and let it dissolve without stirring. Or pre-dissolve it in warm water with a blender or whisk and add to bath water.
Step3
Soak for 20 minutes, with as much of your body covered as possible. If you have active illness, reduce the time.
Step4
Empty the tub. If clay remains at the bottom, use old newspapers or an auto sponge to remove it. Flush the tub and drain for three to five minutes with hot running water to avoid clogs.
Step5
Shower off, and dress warmly until your pores close.

Tips & Warnings

  • Space baths one to two weeks apart.
  • This process is effective, but gradual. Four to 12 baths should make a difference in your well-being. You can continue them indefinitely for health maintenance.
  • Bentonite may draw out some good minerals. Take a good mineral/electrolyte supplement to replace them.
  • Don’t use full-body clay baths if you have a heart condition, high blood pressure, are pregnant or taking certain prescription medicines. Consult your doctor if you have a chronic condition or special health concerns. You may be able to try clay footbaths.
