You have decided that you don’t want to keep hurting and killing animals for your meals, and you want to cut out the animal products. But what about all those delicious meals that you’re going to lose without meat, milk and eggs? Here is a quick and easy way to keep many of the meals that you love without continuing to eat the things you don’t want.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Find vegetarian replacements for meat. The easiest way to cut out most of your animal product intake is to replace your meat with vegetarian meat substitutes. Soy-based meats are available for everything from hamburger crumbles to hot dogs to chicken patties. Mushrooms and vegetables can be combined to create burgers and meat loaf. There is almost no meat that you can’t find as a vegetarian alternative.
Step2
Swap out your dairy. All of the dairy animal products are now able to be replaced very simply. If you like milk, you can replace it with soy milk or rice milk, and even use it in recipes. If you still need to eat cheese, you can also find soy and rice replacements. Even with foods like yogurt and cream cheese, you can find alternative vegetarian replacements in the health food store or at various Internet sites.
Step3
Drop the eggs. Eggs pop up in a lot of places in the average diet, and can be hard to drop. But you can find non-animal product versions of scrambled eggs in the refrigerated section of the grocery store. For recipes, you can often replace one egg with half a banana.
Step4
Look for the little things. Check the labels on the back of all products to make sure there aren’t animal products in them. Many soups have cheese or meat bases, and you can simply switch to vegetarian soups. Some gelatins and puddings use ground animal bones to create their consistency, and you can find organic and vegetarian alternatives. In the twenty-first century, we have the technology to create delicious food that is cruelty-free, and you have the ability to join the cause with very little difficulty.

Tips & Warnings

  • Get to know what ingredients actually mean. Carageenan doesn’t sound like an animal product, but definitely is. When you don’t recognize an ingredient, look it up to be sure.
