Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
- Rooting interest in the hometown team
- Ability to swallow your pride
Step1
Realize that there's a problem with rooting for the athlete on your fantasy team that is competing against your hometown team. If you are turning cartwheels when your fantasy pitcher hurls a shutout against your favorite team, it's time to give up fantasy sports.
Step2
Appreciate the Talent of LaDainian Tomlinson--And Not Because He Scored 28 Points in Fantasy Football
Check the old ego at the door. The ego gratification of performing well in fantasy sports tends to feed the addiction. Understand that the essence of being a sports fan is rooting for athletes, not earning points or bucks off their performances.
Step3
Think about how much money has been spent on entry fees into baseball, football and other fantasy leagues. What else could have been purchased with that money?
Step4
Make the final, bold move. Call all the league commissioners and tell them you're out. Brace for their reactions. Don't give in to gentle or bitter persuasion.
Step5
Enjoy at least one year of appreciating athletes only for their talent and rooting for teams simply because of your love for them. The longer you stay away from fantasy sports, the easier it is to remain apart.
