With its wide triangular bowl, long stem and small base, a martini glass can be awkward to hold at a cocktail party. Enjoy your drink and keep it manageable by holding it properly. Read on to learn how to hold a martini glass.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Martini glass
  • Cocktail
  1. Step 1

Remember that martinis are meant to be consumed cold. Everything is designed to keep it that way, from chilling the shaker, the liquor and the glass to the shape of the glass itself.

  2. Step 2

Keep your hands and their heat away from the glass. Holding the glass itself will warm the drink, defeating the lengths taken to keep it cold.

  3. Step 3

Hold the drink by its stem at the very bottom of the bowl. You’ll avoid warming the drink and you’ll be able to provide proper balance to the top-heavy glassware. If you hold the drink lower on the stem or by the base, you may spill.

  4. Step 4

    Enjoy.

Tips & Warnings
  • At a cocktail party, keep your drink in your left hand so that your right hand stays warm, dry and free for handshaking.
  • Choose one cocktail party activity at a time. Either drink or eat. Trying to do both at the same keeps you from meeting and greeting people with a proper handshake. You’ll also be more prone to accidents.
