You must decide if your care package is going to have a theme. When sending a package for a holiday it is a fun idea to theme the package. This means that if it is going to get there close to Halloween, everything should be orange, black, and spooky. All holidays are great themes. You can even create your own theme for a birthday or just about any occasion.

Once you have settled on a theme, it is important to settle on the size of the package. If you are going for extremely large, then you don't have to limit your purchases. But, most of us are trying to send something manageable. Remember to plan accordingly before you go shopping. Take the size into consideration before hitting the store.

Next, you are now on your way to the store. Now it is time for the fun stuff. Find things that your soldier will enjoy while away from home. If the person has asked for something in particular, try and squeeze this item in. Everyone can use a new pair of underwear or socks. Remember to eliminate perishable items. You don't want to pack something that will spoil before it gets to your loved one.

The last consideration should be the personal touches in your care package. You may want to include lots of little hidden details. These details can be notes from other family members, pictures, a familiar smell from home, or just their favorite snack food. Make all the effort possible before heading to the post office. It might just make your soldier's day.
