Looking for a quick, easy and economical decoration or favor for a party, wedding or shower? Consider the classic satin rose. Read on to learn how to make a satin rose.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Satin (any rose color)
  • Silk or paper rose leaves on a wire
  • 18-inch stem floral wire, cut in half to make two 9-inch pieces
  • Floral tape
  • Ribbon (optional)
  1. Step 1

Cut the satin into 4-inch wide strips, across the grain or width of the fabric, approximately 45 inches.

  2. Step 2

Fold in half lengthwise with right sides together. Sew with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

  3. Step 3

Turn the tube right side out. Do not press.

  4. Step 4

Cut the tube into 6-inch long sections.

  5. Step 5

Gather a piece of the satin tube around one end of the stem floral wire.

  6. Step 6

Begin securing the satin to the ribbon by wrapping the floral tape around the satin and wire. This is a little tricky but make sure the floral tape is tightly wound on both the satin and the wire. Eventually the satin and wire will become one unit.

  7. Step 7

Approximately one-half inch down from the start of the floral tape, slide wire of the silk or paper rose leaf next to the floral stem wire.

  8. Step 8

Secure the leaf to the wire by continuing to wind the floral tape around both wires.

  9. Step 9

Continue wrapping the floral tape to the end of the floral stem wire.

  10. Step 10

To form the rose, turn the unfinished edge of the satin to the inside. Fluff and adjust the satin slightly until the rose shape is apparent.

  11. Step 11

If desired, tie a ribbon onto the floral taped stem.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can make approximately 50 satin roses from one yard of the satin material.
  • The length of the satin rose can be adjusted by cutting the floral stem wire shorter prior to wrapping with the floral tape.
  • The floral tape stick better if there is tension on the tape as it is being wrapped. This tape also sticks to itself. After ripping the edge to end the wrapping process, just press the loose edge into the stem.
  • For a little extra cost the ribbon can be imprinted with names and dates giving the favor even more significance.
  • Encase two white Jordan almonds in netting and attach under the bow for that special wedding tradition.
  • Make sure the end is wrapped in floral tape otherwise the wire could cut or hurt someone if it is sticking out.
