Things You'll Need:
- A photographer or camera pedestal
-
Step 1
Plan a date of when your family will be able to take the photo. Make the appointment with the photographer or set a date on your calendar.
-
Step 2
A week before the date, discuss with your family what you will all wear. It is best to stick to two complementary colors. If there are a large number of you, pick three complementary colors. Darker colors that offset the color of your skin and hair work best.
-
Step 3
Discuss how you will take the photo. Come up with at least four different poses, so you will have more to pick from. Even if you have hired a photographer, it will be to your advantage to know what poses you will like to try. Also, discuss backdrop and lighting. Where will you being taking the photo?
-
Step 4
Three days before the date, practice the poses along with the outfits previously discussed. If you are planning on taking the photo yourself, this will give you a better idea on how the whole scene will unfold on your chosen date.
-
Step 5
View photos and discuss which poses worked, if the background was working, the clothes and lighting. Quickly brainstorm additional poses or what needs to be tweaked.
-
Step 6
On the day of the photo shoot, you and your family will be a pro.
