People of all ages will enjoy making these bulletin boards or receiving them as gifts. Read on to learn how to create a bulletin board from painted leaf imprint fabric.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Foam core board cut to size
  • Paper-backed fusible web (Wonder Under is one brand) – same size as board
  • Painted leaf fabric cut 3 inches longer and wider than board (see related article)
  • White electrical tape
  • Cording 2 inches longer than board
  • 12 thumbtacks
  • Iron
  • Tacky glue
Step1
Create your leaf printed fabric (see related story).
Step2
Iron paper-backed fusible web (paper side up) onto foam core board, following the manufacturer’s directions.
Step3
Allow to cool for about two minutes.
Step4
Remove paper from paperbacked fusible web.
Step5
Center painted leaf fabric over board.
Step6
Iron in place (from center out) making sure it doesn’t wrinkle.
Step7
Bring edges to back and glue in place.
Step8
To keep the edges from raveling and to make the back neater, cover the edges with white electrical tape.
Step9
Tie a knot in each end of the cording.
Step10
Use a thumbtack on each side of the board to form a hanger.
Step11
Place additional thumb tacks on board.
Step12
Now it is ready to use.

Tips & Warnings

  • This project makes a great activity for youth groups. The finished bulletin boards can be given as presents.
  • Use novelty printed fabrics instead of the leaf printed fabrics for a totally different look.
  • You can add ribbons and other three-dimensional items to add more interest to the bulletin board.
  • Be careful when using the iron on the foam core board. It can bubble the paper if it gets too much heat.
  • Follow the manufacturers directions for the paper-backed fusible web.
