Every wine style has its own glass style, developed by designers to complement the wine’s specific attributes. The right glass can maintain a wine’s proper serving temperature and highlight the particular wine’s special properties. By holding the white wine glass properly, you’ll enhance your white wine drinking experience. Read on to learn how to hold a white wine glass.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • White wine
  • White wine glass
  1. Step 1

Choose a glass designed for white wine. It will be the smaller of the two basic wine glasses and have straight or tulip-shaped sides. This shape helps it to maintain the chilled temperature at which white wines are served. It typically has a longer stem and appears more delicate than a red wine glass.

  2. Step 2

Hold the glass with your fingers and thumb at the stem and away from the bowl. The longer stem of a white wine glass allows you to keep your hand from warming the wine.

  3. Step 3

Enjoy your perfectly chilled white wine.

Tips & Warnings
  • When serving white wine, fill the glass two-thirds full.
  • Pour white wine into the center of the glass. Give the bottle a slight twist as you finish pouring to prevent drips.
