How to make extremely cute Christmas earrings

Everyone looks to wear something just a little different when the holidays come around. There are a lot of wonderful ready-made earrings out there, but here's a way to make some that are uniquely "you" or to give as a unique gift to any ladies on your list!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Miniature, clear, hollow glass ornaments
  • French hook earring findings
  • jewelry pliers (or small needle-nose pliers)
  • bits of ribbon, tinsel, tiny beads, etc.

Step1
Carefully remove the tops from the ornaments. Gather your bits of brightly colored ribbon, tinsel, beads, sequins, wrapping paper scraps, cloth scraps... anything that will fit inside to sparkle, shine and catch eyes.
Step2
Arrange it inside the ornament so that it looks pleasing and eye-catching to you. A nut pick or extra long needle is handy on this step.

Don't pack too much into the bulb -- less is more on this one.
Step3
Fill another ornament to match the first! It sounds silly, but a lot of people spend so much time and effort on the first one that they forget that two errings need to coordinate with each other.
Step4
Carefully replace the ornament top (use some glue if it seems like it won't stay). Using your pliers, attatch a french hook to the loop on top of the ornament.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try to coordinate hooks and ornament tops... silver hooks with gold tops (or vice-versa) looks a bit tacky.
  • If you prefer posts or clip-ons, those are also available in the jewelry findings section of the craft stores.
  • Unless you're a real daredevil, don't get ornaments that are too big. Since they ARE glass, larger ornaments seem get caught (and broken!) much more easily that ones that are 1 1/2" or less.
