This article will show you how to easily convert a fraction into a percentage. And it's written by an educator who will walk you through the process step-by-step.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Suppose you need to convert 4/7 into a percentage. Your first step is to divide numerator by denominator. So we'd divide 4 by 7.

That gives us 0.57142857142857142857142857142857.
Step2
All we do now is move our decimal point 2 places to the right.

In my example, that would give us 57.142857142857142857142857142857.
Step3
Our last step is to put the percent sign at the end of our answer to step 2.

Going back to my example, that would be 57.142857142857142857142857142857%.
Step4
If you needed to round your answer, this is where you'd do it. For example, if I wanted it rounded to 2 places, my answer would be 57.14%. Or if I wanted to round it to the nearest whole, it would be 57%.

In other words, you round it after you've done your conversion!

Tips & Warnings

  • If you need to round a certain way, you do it after the conversion
