How to Deal With Chronic Constipation

Constipation can be caused by stress, lack of fluids, overuse of antacids and changes in the diet. If it happens chronically, it can seriously affect your overall health.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • a journal
  • lactobacillus acidophilus
  • plenty of fluids
  • balanced diet

Step1
Make sure you're getting enough water. Coffee, sodas, and teas do NOT take the place of water. Gatorade is good, but it still doesn't provide the same benefits as water.
Step2
Limit your use of antacids. Some contain aluminum salts and can increase the occurrence of constipation.
Step3
Ask your physician about lactobacillus acidophilus. L. acidoophilus is the good bacteria that keeps you regular. It can be used by all ages and can be taken daily. I have found that capsules are the best way to take it.
Step4
Try a juice fast. Drink juices for 2 to 3 days. This will work to flush out the sludge and residue that gets lodged in the colon.
Step5
There are also products on the market that cleanse the colon. They are used to flush out toxins and remove unwanted bacteria. Find one that appeals to you and follow the directions closely.
Step6
Add lots of fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet. Buy a juicer. Be creative!

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep a journal. It will help you spot triggers that lead to constipation.
  • Learn to carry water with you. Keep a few bottles in your car.
  • Consult your physician before trying any new remedies.
  • Inform your doctor of any drastic changes in regularity or consistency.
