Playing in the back row gives you a lot more responsibility than just passing. You must be in the right place at the right time. Here are the steps that will help you figure out where the ball will go next.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

How to Read a Hitter's Body in Volleyball

Step1
Be on your toes at all times so you are able to move quickly and easily.
Step2
Follow the ball as it moves on the other side of the net. Pay attention to the setter's movements as she sets the ball on the second hit. When she sets it to a hitter, move to your appropriate position in the back row.
Step3
As the hitter jumps to swing at the ball, make a quick mental note of the direction his body is facing. If the hitter is hitting from the left side, and his body is straight forward, the ball will most likely go down the line. Move accordingly.
Step4
If the hitter's body is facing the opposite side of the court, chances are her arm will do the same and the ball will be hit at an angle. Move accordingly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Being able to move quickly plays a key part in recovering the hit, but reading the hitter's body language will give you a head start.
