How to Perform The Duties of a Mother of the Bride
As a mother, you have likely looked forward to your daughter's wedding day from the day she was born. While you probably want to be involved in every aspect of planning your daughter's wedding, make sure she welcomes your involvement first. With that said, being the mother of the bride does involve some responsibilities. Fulfill your responsibilities the best way you can and offer to help with anything else your daughter might need.

Help plan the wedding with your daughter. Work with her to set a budget if you and her father will be helping pay for the wedding. Go with her to look for ceremony and reception sites. Help her find a caterer, photographer and other vendors. Do some of the less-fun wedding planning necessities, such as serving as a contact for her vendors. While you are helping, keep in mind this is her wedding. Do not attempt to force your opinions or wants on her. Support her theme and ideas.

Search for a wedding dress with her. Help her find outfits for other wedding-related occasions, such as her engagement party, bridal showers and rehearsal dinner.

Allow her to go shopping with you for the dress you will wear to the wedding. If your style is drastically different from hers, bend a little and try to wear something she likes. Work with the mother of the groom so your dresses are not drastically different styles.

Compile a list of wedding guests for your side of the family, along with addresses. This will be a huge time saver for the bride.

Walk the bride down the aisle if her father is not available to do so. Otherwise, sit in the front row at the ceremony. You will also be the first person escorted out after the wedding party departs.

Help her with whatever else she might need. Be supportive, tell her she looks beautiful, and don't cause her extra stress on top of whatever else she is dealing with.
