Things You'll Need:
- Water
- Spray bottle
- Pea gravel
- Potting soil
-
Step 1
Ensure that the Majesty Palm is potted properly. A 14 to 16 inch pot is usually sufficient. If the roots are bound, repot in a larger pot. Add about 1 to 2 inches of pea gravel to the bottom of the pot to provide proper drainage. Roots that sit in water will rot.
-
Step 2
Select a location for the Majesty Palm that gets medium natural light. This can usually be achieved by placing the pot within about 5 to 8 feet of a window.
-
Step 3
Water a Majesty Palm thorougly when the soil begins to dry out (about once a week).
-
Step 4
Mist the fronds of the Majesty Palm often (every day or every other day). This plant loves humidity, and the misting helps prevent spider mites.
-
Step 5
Inspect the Majesty Palm weekly for spider mites. If you see mites, mist the plant with soapy water twice a day until the mites are gone. If the mites persist, ask your local gardening store to recommend a commercial spray.
-
Step 6
Prune dry, dying fronds as necessary about 2 to 3 inches from the trunk.

on 9/23/2009 Can you use an Aqua Globe to water a Majesty Palm? Or, do I have to water once a week manually?

on 4/25/2009 quote stevie stewart: i keep it in the house near a south window, it gets bright but not direct light. i water it once a week with distalled water from my brita filter. once a month i bring it out on the porch with all the plants and give them a dawn bath. occasionally, the palm and i will cruise in my ferrari by the beach, to pick up chicks and younger palm trees. i use my mr clean car wash sprayer. then after wash and rinse i purge the soil about four times to drain salts and minerals out.i feed it when i give it the soap bath. i let it listen to top 40, but never britney spears. the one time my palm tree had to listen to britney, he shed 4 fronds right to the ground on the spot... w o w. i just water mine...lol.

on 1/7/2009 we are wondering if it grows TOO MUCH can you cut it back? Has anyone tried this? Also, how bad are spider mites? Do they affect certain areas of the plant or are they more prevalent in warmer states? Just bought this plant... lots of questions!

on 11/15/2008 Thank you, I just bought a majesty palm and the leaves were turning brown. I repotted the day I got it and put peat moss over the soil to prevent over drying. I wasn't sure exactly how to care for it before reading your article. (It was the first item to come up on Google.)
