Plan ahead. Make sure travel dates don’t conflict with personal events such as birthdays, anniversaries, school events if possible.

If flying, print out your iteniary and file it until you leave for your trip. This save you from scrambling at the last minute for your airline, departure times, etc.

If renting a car when you arrive at your destination, be sure to print out driving directions. Of course you can rent navigation devices for a reasonable price, but it's helpful to have those directions printed out just in case.

Check in online within 24 hours of your scheduled departure, if possible, for time and piece of mind.

Make sure to have cash on hand with several one dollar bills for tips during a business trip.
