Curling sweepers doing their thing.

Since 1998, curling has been an official Olympic sport. For unknown reasons, its fan base has been slow to accumulate. This is for two reasons. One: Poor marketing. Who even knows what and how awesome curling is? Where are the commercials? Why aren't players endorsing products? Which leads to the second reason: lack of star players. Curling needs is a LeBron James. A Muhammad Ali. A Tanya Harding. Someone to bring national recognition to the sport. Here are a few spots to check out that may hold some untapped resources when looking for curling players.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

One of the primary tenets of the sport is sweeping the ice so the curling stone can glide along a smooth course. Cruising high schools, hospitals, hotels and other large buildings where janitors, maids and other members of the custodial arts work would be a good place to find sweepers for your team.

  2. Step 2

Another aspect of the game is "throwing" the curling stone, requiring excellent aim, not unlike the primary skill used in shuffleboard. Shuffleboard players can be found on cruise ships and retirement communities. Scour these locales for the top players and lure them on to your curling team with the promise of Olympic glory.

  3. Step 3
Armchair quarterback or curling skipper? You be the judge.

Finally, each curling team has a player known as "the skip." This player determines the overall strategy of the teams game plan. Skips can commonly be found behind sports bars or in armchairs.
