Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Visit the official site of Atlantic City Tourism before you go and check out their events calendar (see Resources). Atlantic City offers a wide range of shows in the casinos, from concerts to comedians. Check out who or what is going to be there during the time you are looking to go, and book tickets in advance.
Step2
Pay a visit to the Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum, located right on the Atlantic City boardwalk. A replica of the Tallest Man in the World greets you upon your entrance, and you can see all kinds of other oddities throughout the museum from a lock of George Washington’s hair to a picture made entirely out of lint.
Step3
Venture a few blocks over from the Showboat Casino to the Absecon Lighthouse, the 3rd tallest lighthouse in the United States. Climb up the 228 spiral staircase to the top for a breathtaking view of the shore and the Atlantic City skyline.
Step4
Stop in at the Atlantic City Aquarium. This small structure is home to creatures such as sea bass, northern stingray, bluefish and kingfish. The Touch Tank allows visitors to handle a variety of ocean life, including horseshoes, hermit and spider crabs, sea urchins, sea stars, common periwinkle and common shore shrimp. Visitors can even touch and feed baby stingrays and bamboo sharks.
Step5
The Atlantic City outlets offer shopping for every taste. With over 75 stores and restaurants, there’s enough for shop-aholics to get their fill. For a listing of what stores and restaurants are available see Resources.
Step6
Head over to Margate, NJ (approximately 15 to 20 minutes from the main Atlantic City strip) to visit Lucy the Elephant, a historic landmark. This 65-foot high wooden elephant is open for visitors to climb to the top to learn about her history and stand on her back for a view of the shore.
