  • DSL wiring to phone jack

Instructions

    • 1

Install all filters on the phones. These generally just snap into the phone jacks. These are not necessary on phone extensions -- the ones without jack plug-ins.

    • 2

Remove and disconnect the phone if you have a wall-mounted jack. Place the filter over the jack and slide it down securely until it locks into place. Reconnect the phone and cord.

    • 3

Plug one Ethernet cable into the back of the computer in the networking jack and the other end into the modem. Attach one end of the other Ethernet cable into the DSL slot of the filter and the other end into the back of the modem. You do not need to place the modem by the computer; you can place it by the phone jack if that is closer. Attach the power cord and plug the modem into the wall, but do not turn it on.

    • 4

Turn on the computer and click "Start," then "Control Panel." Type "network" into the search bar. Click "Network and Sharing Center" in the list of results. Click "Set up a new connection or network." Double-click "Connect to the Internet."

    • 5

Turn on the modem by pushing the button when needed. It will detect an Internet connection at that time.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not hesitate to call your Internet Service Provider for assistance if needed.

  • Check if your DSL provider offers a free download of security software, such as antivirus and a firewall.

  • If you do not attach the filters to all phone jacks, you will get noise and interference on the line. Double-check to ensure that the filters are all installed correctly.
