Do you have items you would like to see put to good use? Are you in need of items for yourself or your children but cannot find the funds? Not sure what freecycle is all about? Want to find out if there is an active chapter in your area that would be helpful to you? Read on, this article could have you on your way to trading in no time.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Items you need
  • Donations
  • A freecycle chapter in your area
  • Computer
  • Paper
  • Fountain pen
  • Email program

Step1
Open up Microsoft Internet Explorer (or other browser). Go to freecycle's website (see Resources below).
Step2
Type in your city and state in the search engine on the top of the website. Hit enter or click the arrow to search for a city.
Step3
Click on the chapter that is closest to you. Locations are underlined.
Step4
Find an active chapter close to home to get the most out of freecycle.
Your local group should host a yahoo group. Your first step is to be accepted as a member of this yahoo group. This is different than your yahoo email program.

Please know that items will be posted as they arrive. If some time passes and you cannot find materials you need or donate your items to those in need, consider joining a new chapter.
Step5
Do not forget to use freecycle to rid your home or business of items you no longer use. Items like furniture, computers, desks, toys, supplies or clothing are great donations. Freecycle is a great way to benefit another family or office like yours.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also browse the site and find out more information by clicking on any of the tabs.
  • You will need to keep up with the items posted to your freecycle Yahoo group or local group site to get the most benefit from it.
  • Meet in a well lit, neutral location, if possible, to trade with people you do not know. Do not go alone.
  • Make sure items you trade are safe and in good working order.
  • Check recall lists before accepting items.
  • Do not have strangers come to your home if you live alone or if you are the only one home.
  • Do not post personal demographic information in any group, forum or email.
