Having too much or not enough fun at a party can lead to awkward social moments, particularly when it comes time to head on out. Insulting your host with an early exit or lingering way beyond your welcome are celebratory taboos. These tips should help you decide the proper time to vamoose, thus avoiding embarrassing confrontations which could affect your future invitations.

From Quick Guide: All About Parties
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tact
  • Self awareness
  • Social graces
  1. Step 1

If the booze runs out, get out of there. Nothing good can happen after that.

  2. Step 2

If you notice your host yawning, it's time to go.

  3. Step 3

Your host's allusions to the lateness of the hour or continual references to timepieces are good hints to take.

  4. Step 4

If everyone is drunker than you and you have decided not to join them in booze-soaked revelry, scram.

  5. Step 5

If the party is crawling along like a geriatric on medication, think up a believable and incontestable excuse to remove yourself from the proceedings.

  6. Step 6

If you are the last one there, just leave.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always thank your host whether you have a good time or not.
  • Do not ask to spend the night. Get a cab if necessary.
