Everyone enjoys food but how many of us truly savor the things we eat and seek out fresh alternatives to our favorite meals. Developing a good palate not only enhances the eating experience but broadens one's tastes so that variety as well as quality can be appreciated.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Eat slowly and pay attention to your meal. Think about the food. Consider its texture and variety of flavors.
Step2
Smell your food before you bite into it. The sense of smell is directly tied to the sense of taste. If food smells good, it will more than likely taste good.
Step3
Train your brain. Experiment by eating varieties of similar food. Four different apples will reveal four very distinct flavors and textures.
Step4
Try new and different foods as often as possible. Don't always get the same dish when dining out. Challenge your taste buds. Particularly focus on foods from various cultures and cuisines.
Step5
Discover things you do not like. Educating your palate is as much about distaste as taste.
Step6
Know that snobbery toward food is not helpful. A good palate will allow you to enjoy a greasy cheeseburger as much as well prepared sashimi.
Step7
Consider that overeating deadens your palate and mindset. Eat sensibly portioned meals with a large variety of items.
