Instructions
  1. Step 1

A sense of humor is your first tactic. Try and tell a few jokes or laugh about why they are feeling blue. Give them a reason to laugh at themselves. Let your family member know that his problem ultimately will pass.

  2. Step 2

When your family member is feeling down and is not in the mood to laugh at herself, have her laugh at you. Do goofy things around the house that you know will put a smile on her face. See if you can't get your family member to join you. A little dancing never hurt anyone.

  3. Step 3

When dancing just isn't enough put on your family member's favorite comedy movie. Pull out the popcorn or your family member's favorite movie snack. Sit and enjoy the movie with them.

  4. Step 4

If all else fails, give your family member a hug. It is nice just to have the warm embrace of a loved one in your time of need. Remember to reaffirm that you love them and always will be there for them.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember that it is easy to hurt someone's feelings when they are feeling down and out, so tread lightly.
