Keep your stats correct. Shamans mainly need intelligence. For intelligence, 1 point in intelligence will equal 15 points in mana. For a shaman, when the mana dies the character will die because its main abilities are all mana related.

Secondary needs for a warlock are stamina, agility and strength. Stamina increases your health; one point of stamina gives you 10 health points. Agility gives points equal to half the level of your character for 1% for critical hit. So a level 70 needs 35 agility points to increase 1% for critical hit. Agility also gives points equal to a fourth of the level of your character for 1% dodge. So a level 60 needs 15 agility points to increase 1% in dodge. Strength points are good for melee shamans. For every 7 strength points it will raise melee damage 1 dps (damage per second).

Remember the golden rule in World of Warcraft: Not all purple items are better than a blue item, nor are all blue items better than a green item. Remember to study the pieces in the auction house or that drop off higher-ranking mobs. Sometimes the numbers will surprise you.

That being said, epic pieces to look for in the game (some are bind on pickup, others bind on equip) are sets designed for shamans. These include Earthfury, Ten Storms, Earthshatterer and Five Thunders.
