How to Make Cookie Ornaments

Edible ornaments are always a big hit, but people often get tired of the same ones each year. This year, why not make cookie ornaments? These cute cookies are decorated to actually look like Christmas ornaments. Your guests will love them for their beauty and taste.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Refrigerated sugar cookie dough
  • Flour
  • Rolling pin
  • Round cookie cutter
  • Royal icing
  • Food Coloring
  • Colored sugar
  • Small cellophane bags
  • Ribbon

    How to Make Cookie Ornaments

  1. Step 1

    Roll the cookie dough out on a floured surface and then cut with the round cookie cutter.

  2. Step 2

    Bake according to the package directions and allow to cool.

  3. Step 3

    Split the royal icing into three or four bowls and add food coloring.

  4. Step 4

    Dip each cookie into a different color of icing and immediately sprinkle with colored sugar.

  5. Step 5

    Allow the icing to harden and then place the cookies into cellophane bags. Tie with the ribbon to create a loop that can be hung from tree branches.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use any color of food coloring, but it's best to leave at least one portion white.
  • Make sure the cookies have hardened completely before packaging or the icing could stick to the bag.
