If you love indie films and are looking to draw more attention to them, a great way to do that is to post a review online or an a blog. You’ll improve your writing and critical thinking skills at the same time.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Independent film to watch
  • Writing ability
  • Online forum or blog

Step1
Set aside some time to watch the film straight through. Of course this is easy if you are viewing it in a theater. If you are watching it at home, watch the film through at least once with as few distractions as possible.
Step2
While watching, take notes on things that strike you, such as dialogue, plot points, characters or costuming choices. You don’t have to appreciate or be hyper-critical of everything you see.
Step3
Take into mind the budget of the film in relation to Hollywood films. It is important to keep perspective and acknowledge appreciation for what independent filmmakers are able to do with significantly fewer resources.
Step4
Use your own style in writing. You don’t have to follow a standard film review formula of any kind. Write about what you would want to know as a reader. Whether you like the film or hate it, have fun with your writing.
Step5
Link to other blogs and movie sites and ask for a return link. You will receive more traffic and readership and thus more attention for the film you are reviewing.
