Things You'll Need:
- Plastic martini glasses
- Fresh mineral water
- Lemons
- Limes
- Fixings for a pot roast including carrots and potatoes head lettuce, radishes and celery
- Ingredients for apple cobbler including ice cream
-
Step 1
Encourage the other couple(s) to dress in early sixties attire. The guy may sport a dark black suit jacket with white shirt and skinny dark tie. The woman will want to wear a simple form fitting A-line dress. You and your partner will want to dress in like manner. Women will need to wear their hair in a flip or piled upon their head. Men will need to get a haircut.
-
Step 2
Go to the local dollar store and purchase some plastic martini glasses. Martinis were the before dinner cocktail of the sixties; however, for your party you may serve up mineral water in your martini glasses and instead of an olive you may offer a nice slice of lemon or lime. Also, check your local thrift store or used book retailer and purchase periodicals reminiscent of the era. Place the magazines and books you purchase on your coffee table or any other prominent location in your living room. Also, purchase DVDs as well as CDs appropriate to the era.
-
Step 3
A nice salad should start off the affair. Head for the grocery and purchase head lettuce, radishes, celery and carrots. Oil and vinegar will serve as the dressing.
-
Step 4
The next entry is a pot roast along with sliced potatoes and carrots. This is a meal you may allow to slow cook all day with the reward being a truly delicious meal. The beverage you serve with dinner may remain mineral water or the beverage of your choice. After purchasing your salad fixings, you will want to purchase everything needed for preparation of the pot roast.
-
Step 5
For dessert try an apple cobbler with a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream. If you know of a good recipe, purchase the ingredients to make a supreme apple cobbler. Add the vanilla ice cream as a cool topper to your dessert choice.
-
Step 6
Greet your guests with the mineral water cocktails. Provide background music appropriate for the sixties. Bring all of the dishes to the table while your guests make small talk in the living room with your spouse. Serve up dinner as described above and enjoy.
-
Step 7
Adjourn to the living area after dinner with a nice cup of coffee or tea.
-
Step 8
Conclude the evening with re-runs of "I Dream of Jeanie," the "Dick Van Dyke Show" or any sixties era video of your choice. Play background music on your music system of sixties hit songs.
-
Step 9
Enjoy the evening, and let yourself get into the sixties. Good shows to watch during your party are re-runs of "Bewithched." Dress like Samantha and Darrin when they entertained Larry Tate and his wife. That's the kind of ambiance you want to achieve for the evening.
