Create a plan with an impressive arrangement of dining room furniture. The furniture plan is the basis for your design, followed by the selection of fabrics and furniture selections from various manufacturers. Once you have created the basic dining room layout you can always add textures and color to your plan to further describe your idea.

  7. Step 7

Tips & Warnings
  • Most dining rooms are not square; they are rectangles. Most dining tables are rectangles and should be placed in the same direction as the room's rectangle.
  • The chairs should appear as if they are partially under the table, as if they are not in use and are pushed in.
  • Your rug should be larger than your table and chairs. If the chairs are pulled out they should still fit on the rug.
  • The buffet table is usually placed on the longest wall in the same direction as the table. However, it can be placed on the wall at the end of the dining table if needed as long as it is not in front of a window.
  • If your buffet has a hutch, you should eliminate the lamps and add wall sconces on either side of the hutch. The sconces should be centered between the end of the hutch and the corner.
  • If you are showing a long table in a large dining room, you may want to locate two chandeliers equally spaced out over the dining table.
  • If using hardwood flooring, you may want to eliminate step 3 and not use a rug.
