If you're worried about losing all the songs you've saved on your computer throughout the years, there are ways of doing so online.

One service I prefer to store my own music on is called Oboe Locker from MP3Tunes. It's an online locker service geared specifically for digital music storage. Here is how you use it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet connection
  • Music files
  • Patience

How to Safeguard Your Digital Music Collection with MP3Tunes

  1. Step 1

Go to the MP3Tunes Music Locker. Click on “Create Free Locker Account.”

Note that, while MP3Tunes advertises “free storage,” it’s actually a small bait and switch because the “free storage” is only offered to “a select number of sign-ups per day.” In truth, you’re going to sign up for a premium locker account with “unlimited space” at $39.95 per year.

  2. Step 2

Enter your email address, create a password, and agree to the Terms of Service. Then click the “Create Locker” button.

  3. Step 3

After going through the rest of the sign-up process, you’ll download the Oboe Sync. This is the application that uploads your digital music collection to your locker.

The MP3Tunes locker is accessible from any device with an Internet connection and a Web browser.

Tips & Warnings
  • Oboe’s music upload process is slow, almost real-time. For example, it took six hours to upload 250 songs on my computer. The download process, however, is much quicker.
