Manage Black Hair

Tired of having dry brittle hair? This is just a quick guide to getting beautiful shining hair between salon visits.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shampoo & Conditioner enriched in vitamin E
  • setting lotion
  • ceramic flat iron
  • hair gloss
  1. Step 1

Find a shampoo and conditioning product used to treat dry and damaged hair. ( Since most people use perms this a good start to repairing hair that is damaged by the chemicals.) These shampoos will contain vitamin E, aloe vera, almond extract, just to name a few.( i.e. Tresemme less than $4 at Wal-mart)

  2. Step 2

Using a generous amount gently massage shampoo into your entire head using your fingertips. Do not use nails because this scratches and damages the scalp. Rinse with cool water because really hot water strips the hair of its natural oils.

  3. Step 3

Next, use a thick lotion based conditioner to coat the strands of your hair from root to tip. Let stand for 5-10 min and rinse. ( i.e. Tresemme less than $4 at Wal-mart)

  4. Step 4

The next step is optional, but I nevertheless it works. Use a mild setting lotion to add body and lock in moisture. In addition, hair gloss protects your hair from heat.( Proclaim works really well!) Gently comb through starting at the ends of your hair and work your way up. This minimizes breakage. At this point blow dry your hair on a medium setting or let air dry.

  5. Step 5

Lastly, part hair into sections, and using a ceramic flat iron straighten hair adding a curl or bump at the end. To ensure hold, a light hair spray can be used. Wrap hair in a circular motion and tie down with a silk scarf.

Tips & Warnings
  • Find cute styles that allow you to wear your hair down. This helps your hair to breathe.
  • Try using heat only once at week! If the body in your hair gets limp before its time to wash find a cute updo with bobby pins or clips to avoid added stress on your hair.
  • Avoid large amount of products in your hair. Your hair needs OXYGEN to grow. I know we've all grown up piling oil sheen and the like in our hair to retain shine, but it's not needed.
  • Avoid ponytails which break off hair around the edges.
