It is not that difficult to make thumbnail size images using your image editing program like Adobe Photoshop or GIMP. However, you need to open each image separately, open the scaling menu, select the parameters and save the scaled image. This is easy if you have one thumbnail to make, but what if you have to make 100 for your website? NerdLib (nerdlib.com) offers a number of free software tools designed to help you build traffic to your website. One of them is the MT Thumbnail Generator, which allows you to select a number of images and generates all of the thumbnail images instantly (see link below).

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • MT Thumbnail Generator from NerdLib Software
  • Images requiring thumbnail creation

Step1
Thumbnail creator Open the MT Thumbnail Generator. Select the size of your thumbnail in pixels based on the design of your web page. You can also select a name to be appended to the file name. The default is thumb, but you can select any name. The thumbnail will be created in the directory of the originals and the append name will help you to distinguish between the full size and thumbnail image.
Step2
Browsing for files When you browse for images, use the control button along with the mouse and click to select multiple files. When you have made your selections, click OPEN.
Step3
Ready to Generate You can see all of the files you selected in the creator window. Confirm the size and append name and then click GENERATE to create the thumbnails.
Step4
Finishing generation The software will display a message when generation is complete. The message will remind you where the generated files are in case you forgot.
Step5
Directory location Notice the thumbnail has been generated as is located next to the original with “-thumb” as part of the picture name. The generation of the thumbs takes only seconds.

Tips & Warnings

  • Works with most image formats including TIFF, RAW and NEF
  • Make sure you use an append name so you can easily see the difference between the original and thumbnail.
  • Use the default size if you are not sure what size thumbnail to specify.
