Are you a candle buff who wants some very cool tips on how to be a candle connoisseur? Get the most from candles while keeping you and your home safe.

From Quick Guide: Candle Accents
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

When your candle has burned down and you are stuck with the task of digging out the extra wax to clean out the candle holder, here’s a much simpler solution. Put the candle holder in the freezer for at least 20 minutes and the extra wax will pop out cleanly and easily.

  2. Step 2

Say you love a particular scent. However, it only comes in a votive and you want to use it as a tart, just break the votive in two, remove the wick and small metal bottom, and pop it into your tart/tea light holder. In fact, you can get two full tarts out of one votive, which ultimately costs less than buying it in a tart form.

  3. Step 3

Do you have tea lights that don’t burn well? Try pulling the wick gently upwards to lengthen it before burning it. It will give a normal burn rather than one that is too small or wimpy.

  4. Step 4

If you find that a tin or jar candle burns out before its time, you can still put the rest of the wax to good use. Freeze what’s left and then dig it out of the container and use it as a tart.

Tips & Warnings
  • In addition to employing general candle safety, make sure not to keep your candle too close to the wall as it could leave a black burn stain. If this happens, try removing it with a cotton ball of nail polish remover. Dab it on a tiny spot first to make sure it doesn’t ruin the paint.

on 3/3/2008 Use soy candles and you won't get those black marks! Also, put a few drops of water in the bottm of the votive holder then your votive and when you are done and the candle has melted, wait for it to harden and it will pop right out! GOOD ARTICLE -- love the ideas about tarts, etc!
