This season's hottest toy is the Nintendo Wii, which means many stores across the country are sold out, and Wiis are tough to come by. If you are astute and persistent, you can score one on Ebay, but it is not an easy task.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • PC with an Internet connection
  • Paypal and eBay account
  1. Step 1

If price is no object and you want a Wii at all costs, simply go to "Buy it Now on eBay" and you are finished. They are running at about $500 to $550 right now, which is considerably more than you will pay if you have patience.

  2. Step 2

If you are a patient person, then start at about 8 or 9 p.m. to look for a Wii auction that is ending around midnight or into the night. This guarantees that most people will no longer be watching.

  3. Step 3

Bid up to about $425 as a maximum bid. If you have the money in your account, you may want to bid on two or more auctions. If you win two, you can always scalp the other one on Craigslist at a premium.

  4. Step 4

Set your alarm for 10 minutes before the end of the auction.

  5. Step 5

If you have been outbid, then do a search for auctions ending soon and see if anything is at a lower amount. If so, switch your bidding to this auction, being sure to check the seller's feedback rating first.

  6. Step 6

If you haven't been outbid, then watch the auction closely. Some people use software that jacks the bid up in the last seconds of the auction. You may want to increase your maximum slightly to about $440, which is probably what you would have paid in the store.

  7. Step 7

If you lose totally tonight, start over again the next day. Remember, persistence pays.

Tips & Warnings
  • Watch auctions carefully.
  • Don't get caught in a bidding war and pay too much. This is how eBay makes money.
