It's your third trimester, and now it's time to think about your breastfeeding bra. There are lots of options, but you want to be sure you're going to purchase the bra that is easiest to use and most comfortable.
In your third trimester is the best time to start shopping for a nursing bra. You want a bra that isn't snug or tight, as you will still plump up a bit when your milk comes in.
Step2
Look for bras that aren't tight, like your regular bra or a sports bra, as this will push your milk ducts to the back of your chest and could potentially cause a delay in your milk let down. You have so much to get used to in the initial days of coming home, you don't need to be frustrated over slow let down or a delay in your milk coming in. Find bras that are comfortable.
Step3
Comfort is key as you may be sleeping in your bra. Especially in the beginning, when you are feeding your baby every few hours, you may choose to bring the baby to bed. Once your baby starts to verbalize, in any manner, or move around, your body will respond and often begin to leak. So a comfortable bra and thick, cotton breast pad will be very handy.
Step4
Try to buy a bra that hooks at the last hook comfortably. That way, as the bra elastic loosens, you'll have more hooks to pull together.
Step5
Look for bras that can be easily unhooked with the opposite hand. You will have the baby in one arm and you'll be fumbling between the layers of your nursing top/dress to get at your bra. So test how it comes apart and how it goes back together, with one hand. The clasp may easily come apart, but if it needs to click back together, that is too hard for one hand.
Tips & Warnings
Don't purchase an underwire bra, as it will be uncomfortable and may push into your milk ducts.
