Things You'll Need:
- 6-10 rollers
- 12-25 roller clips or bobby pins
- Leave-in conditioner
- Setting lotion
-
Step 1
Start by washing and conditioning your hair thoroughly. Apply the leave-in conditioner of your choice. Comb through.
-
Step 2
Using the end of a rat-tail comb, create a part about two inches in length. I like to place my part in the front, a little off center. From there, part your hair in a circle around your head, making sure that the part is two inches from your hairline at every point. When you’re done, you should have all the hair from the crown of your head in your hand. Secure that hair in a tight bun with a clip or a bobby pin.
-
Step 3
Now, the center part you created at the start should still be there. Starting right at the part, take a small section of hair, and comb it to the right so that it lays flat against your head. Make sure the comb takes out all of the little knots--use short, gentle strokes. Repeat this, adding more and more sections of hair and combing each around your head until all of your hair wrapped. By the end of this step, it should look like you’re wearing a headband made of your own hair. Smooth a little setting lotion on this section of hair and secure any hair that is falling out of place with a bobby pin or clip.
-
Step 4
Take the rest of your hair out of that bun and part it down the middle. Secure one half of that hair with a clip. Using your rat-tail comb, take sections of hair (rectangles about two inches wide and one inch long), detangle from end to root, wrap each section around a roller and secure on both sides with clips or bobby pins. You should start from the front of your hair and work your way to the back. You should end up with six to 10 rollers in the center of your head, and the hair headband should still be in place.
-
Step 5
Sit under a hard hat hair dryer for about one hour, until the roots of the hair are dry. Remove rollers, and comb down wrapped hair. Use a blow dryer at low heat and paddle brush to straighten hair, or just loosen up curls.
