For certain social malfunctions, bullying others is the only way to get through life. Unfortunately, this means that some poor souls are going to end up getting bullied for no good reason. If you’re stuck in the path of an oncoming bully, there are several ways to survive the encounter.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Try to reason your way out of it. Calmly and rationally explain why violence is not going to work right now. Don’t make threats, just question what’s going on and why. Attempt to bring the brute to his senses. Tell the bully there are consequences to his actions, or perhaps convince him that someone else watching.

  2. Step 2

Make jokes. If he’s not going to be persuaded by reason than maybe you can quickly get him to like you. Many a comedian has been born in the face of adversity.

  3. Step 3

Excuse yourself if it looks bad. “Is that the art teacher?” you might ask, quickly walking in a random direction. Try to combine the first two steps and make a joke about not being able to stick around. Try not to run in a panic, but confidently and quickly exit the scene.

  4. Step 4

Plead. If the bully continues his abuse, beg for mercy. He wants to feel big and you can give that to him if you can’t escape his clutches.

  5. Step 5

Tell yourself that in the end bullies never win. While the bully is having his fun making you look like a weenie, remind yourself where bullies usually end up—-unloved in prison. You’re going to be the real winner here in a few decades.

  6. Step 6

Erase a grudge with pity and self-confidence. Don’t start harboring dark fantasies about taking on your bully or bullies, and try to expand your dislike of his injustice to entire populations. It’s not healthy and will cause you much more difficulty in the long run. The bullying episodes shouldn’t erode your sense of self-worth and you can’t walk around with permanent anger.
