How to Give to Charity Without Giving Money

Everyone really wants to give to charity, but for various reasons tend not to. Money is usually the main reason. But, you really don't need money to donate to charity. Read on to learn how.

1. Clean your closets of old, outdated, too-small clothes. Ever heard of the thrift shop? This is one of the easiest ways to give to charity without spending a dime.
2. Make sure the clothes from your closet, no matter how old they may be, are at least clean and wearable.
3. Bag the clothes. If you have other items to donate such as kitchen or various home appliance, separate them into a different bag.
4. Drop the bags of items off at your local thrift shop or homeless shelter.
5. Get a record/receipt of your donation when you make the drop off. Usually you can get this from the attending clerk. You may have to fill out the item list yourself. Or some drop-off boxes only supply a phone number you must call to get an actual receipt. This will be needed when you file your taxes.

Tips & Warnings

• Clean your closets several times of year to avoid having so much baggage at one time.
• Don't forget to get a receipt. It may be hard to justify on your taxes if you do.
