Step 1
Size up your feet. Before beginning to shop for the perfect shot-put shoe, you will need to know the size of your feet in male sizes. Many shot-put shoes are offered in male sizes only.
-
Step 2
Know your moves. Depending upon how you throw the shot, you may have a different selection of shoes. The spin technique requires a shoe that is bald and smooth on the bottom with a rounded sole. The glide technique, on the other hand, offers a flat sole and is less smooth.

Step 3
It is all in the details. Some shot-put shoes offer ankle straps, high-top selections and lace-less varieties. A shot-put shoe is most often worn for a very brief period of time, but these details can mean the difference between a comfortable shoe and a shoe that just does not feel the way it should.

Step 4
Take the time. When choosing a shot-put shoe, make sure to take the time to walk around in the shoes for more than a couple of minutes. There is nothing worse than making it to the final round of a competition only to have your feet hurting from a bad shoe choice.
