"Brutti e Buoni" means "Hugly and Good" in Italian. This is a great winter sweets recipe from the north Italy (Piedmont). It takes literally minutes to prepare and few bucks. Success guaranteed for parties and healthy snacks. You may serve those cookies with a glass of DiSaronno liqueur.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 9 ounces (~250 grams) of hazelnuts.
  • 9 ounces (~250 grams) of almonds.
  • 10 ounces (~300 grams) of brown sugar.
  • 3 egg whites.
  • Unbleached Baking Paper.
  1. Step 1

    Finely grind the hazelnuts and almonds in the food processor.

  2. Step 2

    Whip the egg whites to a firm thick foam in a bowl.

  3. Step 3

    Add the nuts to the egg whites and the sugar. Mix thoroughly.

  4. Step 4

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees (~180 Celsius).

  5. Step 5

    Lay the baking paper sheet in a flat oven tray.

  6. Step 6

    Scoop the mix onto the tray to create balls of about 2 inches diameter. Leave about one inch space between cookies.

  7. Step 7

    Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, until the cookies tan to a bronze color.

Tips & Warnings
  • You might use powdered sugar instead for a smoother texture, but it increases the calories.
  • Make sure you buy unsalted, non roasted nuts for best results.
