These tips will help you throw a great kiddie party at home.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Pick a Theme. Gender neutral is always a good idea if you are inviting both boys and girls.

    Ideas you may like:
Princess and Pirate Dress Up Party
    Blues Clues
    Clowns
    Mickey Mouse

  2. Step 2

    Invitations.

Invitations may reflect the theme of the party. You may either buy them or make them yourself. Lots of parents are getting very creative and making the invitations themselves including pictures of the child.

  3. Step 3

    Decorations.

Decorations typically include balloons, banners and streamers. Be creative, what can you find for your theme? Posters or print outs from your computer are a great idea.

  4. Step 4

    Food.

Limit the selection of food to one type to eliminate mass caos with the kids.

    recommendations:
    Pizza
    Hot Dogs
    Chicken Fingers & Fries

  5. Step 5

    Beverages.

I highly recommend juice boxes (100% juice) to cut down on spills and messes. Apple juice and white grape are excellent choices as they will not stain.

I do not recommend soda be offered to children under 8 as parents may not appreciate it.

  6. Step 6

    Cake.

Cake is the traditional choice but cupcakes are also an excellent choice. Children love them and serving is quick and easy.

The cake traditionally reflects the theme of the party either by color or character, but it is not necessary.

  7. Step 7

    Project.

Projects will keep the children entertained for a while, the time will of course depend on the project itself. Keep the age of the children in mind when planning a project. Be sure to have a table large enough for the children to all sit down and work on it.

    Ideas:
    Painting wood bird houses.
    Coloring sun catchers.
    Foam Art.
Painting wood picture frames (remove glass first!).

  8. Step 8

    Fun Time.

Chidren love organized fun and this will help control the caos.

    Ideas:
    Duck, Duck, Goose
    Hot Potato
    Musical Chairs
    Story Time
    Pinata
    Face Painting/Tattoo Decals
Pin the Tail on the Donkey

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to have beverages and food for the adults. Parents typically stick around for the parties and should be welcome to do so.
  • Are any of your guests allergic to a specific food? Do your best to accomodate the child so that he or she may participate in the entire party without feeling left out. There are plenty of milk free/egg free recipes available on line if you are having difficulty.
  • Make sure your projects and decorations are non-toxic and do not pose a choking risk.
