How to Answer Some Common Rude Questions

You can't stop people from asking rude questions, but you can diffuse the situation by answering the questions in a way that preserves your privacy and keeps you from feeling more uncomfortable. Following are a few rude questions and the answers you can give.

1. How much money do you make? This is one of the most invasive questions you can encounter. It is never a good idea to divulge this information and to maintain your privacy, answer, "Enough to know better."
2. Have you had plastic surgery? If this makes you uncomfortable and you feel as if it is none of the questionner's business, just say, "I can't BELIEVE you don't think I was born with this."
3. Is your (mother, father, sister, etc.) sick? If someone asks you this, they obviously don't know the person well enough to ask the person themselves. Just say, "I don't know, I haven't talked to him/her in a few days. Why don't you call and ask."
4. Why don't you have kids? Everyone has unique conditions in their life that affects their current situation. If you don't feel like this is an appropriate question, say, "Pollution, I wouldn't want to contribute any more to the gene pool."
5. Why aren't you married? Marriage is one of the most personal decisions you can make in life, and it's no one's business why you are or aren't. An easy way to end the inquistion is to say, "Because I'm smart."

• If someone is rude enough to ask you an invasive question, they don't have enough sense to realize they're being insensitive. Don't ever get upset when you are asked a rude question, just keep your cool, deliver a witty and non-revealing answer and move on.
