Step 1
Decide if your child is mature and well-adjusted enough to appear on national television without suffering harm. If your son or daughter is particularly sensitive about losing or performing in front of others, it would probably be best to not audition for a public experience like participating on "My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad."

Go to the NBC casting website to see if there are any future open casting calls scheduled in your area if you determine that your child can handle the pressure of being on television.

Make travel preparations for you and your child to attend the open casting call if one is arranged for the area where you live.

Download the application for "My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad" from the NBC casting website regardless of whether or not you will attend an open casting call. The document must be fully completed even if you decide to submit a videotape instead of going to an open call in person.

Make a videotape of you and your child if and only if you don't make it to a casting call. The tape should be about five minutes long, and it can include other people besides the prospective competitors. The main goal is to demonstrate why you and your child are a unique and exceptional team while highlighting both of your personalities, daily activities, and lives in general.

Review the guidelines on the NBC casting website for additional suggestions on how to create a more appealing video, such as making sure that the audio and picture are clear.

Take a separate photograph of you and your child or locate two that were taken recently. Smile and try to come across as pleasant and fun individuals.

Complete all sections of the application in legible writing. The questions meant for the father should be answered by the parent and those for the child should be answered by the daughter or son.

Include a copy of the father's resume in the final package, as well.

Mail all of the application materials to the address indicated on the NBC casting website and then sit back and continue on with life until you are contacted about the status of your application.
