Step 1
A good start is to wear clothes that cover your arms and legs but still keep you cool. These days there are lots of clothes on the market made of SPF material and of lightweight material that keeps you cool but protected.

Step 2
Wearing long sleeved shirts and pants is a start but your hands and face are still exposed. A baseball hat will protect your head. If you have a thick head of hair, you are less at risk of burning your scalp, but a hat will always protect your forehead. Also, a scarf around your face will keep your most delicate skin protected.

Step 3
With all this protection, it is still a good idea to wear sunscreen on the most exposed parts of your body like the face and hands and possibly feet depending in what you're doing.

Step 4
You can still protect you skin without wearing special clothes or lotions. Look for shaded spots. Carry an umbrella. Always sit with your back to the sun. If you make a small effort, you can really limit your sun exposure without much effort.
