How to Select by Color in Adobe Photoshop

To select a color in Adobe Photoshop, you could use the Magic Wand tool, but sometimes that isn't very precise. A better way is to use the Select by Color Range command.

        Click on the "Select" menu at the top of your Photoshop screen.

        Choose "Color Range." A dialogue window will pop up. Within this window, you will see a likeness of the image. Check that "selection" is chosen under the image.

        Grab one of the eyedropper tools and click on part of the image. The display alters to correspond with what you sampled.

        Hold down the Shift key to add more color to your selection.

        Hit "OK" when you have finished the selection. Locate your selection on the main image.

        Make any adjustments you wish to your selection.

    • Get in the habit of duplicating your layers before you begin.

    • Deselect pixels by hitting "Control" and "D."
